FCV 2016 Snow Storm Blizzard

2016 Snow Storm Blizzard is going to hit the Fairfax Location!!It’s all over the news that we will be getting a snow storm in our area!

Fairfax County Public Schools will be closed. Your children will be so happy having snowball fights, sledding and otherwise enjoying the snow.  We encourage our residents to interact with their neighbors and assist each other throughout the storm. Also, this is the season where we all need our personal shovels and scrapers so we can remove the snow from and around our cars.

Winter storms can range from a moderate snow over a few hours to a blizzard with blinding, wind-driven snow that lasts for several hours.

We found some tips how to prepare for this weekend’s monster snow storm:

1)      Have a gallon of water per person (Last for 3 days)

2)      Non-perishable food that is easy to prepare

3)      Batteries

4)      Flashlights

5)      Medications and First Aid Kit

6)      Multi-purpose Tools

7)      Copies of Important Documents

8)      Rock Salt

9)      Winter Weather Attire (Boots and Heavy Coats)

Avoid driving during the snowstorm.

However, if you have to, then we found some tips:

Tips for driving in the snow:

1. Accelerate and decelerate slowly.
2. Drive slowly.
3. The normal dry pavement following distance of three to four seconds should be increased to eight to ten seconds.
4. Know your brakes.
5. Don’t stop if you can avoid it.
6. Don’t power up hills.
7. Don’t stop going up a hill.

Winter Storm Outlook – Winter storm conditions are possible in the next 2 to 5 days.

Winter Weather Advisory – Winter weather conditions are expected to cause significant inconveniences and may be hazardous. When caution is used, these situations should not be life threatening.

Winter Storm Watch – Winter storm conditions are possible within the next 36 to 48 hours. People in a watch area should review their winter storm plans and stay informed about weather conditions.

Winter Storm Warning – Life-threatening, severe winter conditions have begun or will begin within 24 hours. People in a warning area should take precautions immediately.
